- You seem to have avoided a whole heap of evidence of the grizzly, gruesome, geriatric whom we hate (Grandpa Joe), being a book penned by none other than Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. Within there is many examples of the evils of Joe shining through which currently seem to go unnoticed. Since you’ve missed them here are some examples:
Page 4- When Grandma Josephine rightly deduces that William Wonkman is endangering them in his ascension in the elevator, she and her counterparts (grandparents George and Georgina) rightly scream at Wonka to stop the escalator and let them go home. She (And only she) is dismissed by Grandpa Joe and told to be quiet. This smells of abusive relationships to me. Later, on page 10, he cracks a joke at Josephine’s expense about her getting out of bed. More proof!
Page 21- Grandpa Joe screams his trademark ‘Yipeee’ and tells Wonka what a great idea he’s had to link up with the Space Hotel. Would you be so excited to break into a hotel? No, but this website has already established Grandpa Joe as an industrial spy, and a good one too. Keep in mind this book was published during the Cold War when Russia could have killed for information on American spacecraft. Is Grandpa Joe a spy for the KGB? It is the only logical conclusion.
Page 67- As we know from the first film, Grandpa Joe is knowledgeable of Vermicious Knids and has a low opinion of them. ‘If she’s a lady […] I’m a Vermicious Knid.’ In this book however, when a Knid collides with the elevator and brains (or bums) himself, Joe quips ‘He’l have a nasty headache after that.’ This implies he takes joy in the suffering of Knids. Does this mean, combined with his use of their name in a derogatory manner, that Grandpa Joe is speciesist? Obviously!
Page 126- The first thing Grandpa Joe says to Grandpa George becoming young again is to make fun of the fact that his hair is returning.
And that’s only some of it! I know that us, the believers, will find more than what I just gathered on a two-minute skim read. But most importantly, this book is a valuable untapped source of sources condemning the evil Grandpa Joe. Give it a read!

- To be valid, the analysis of Grandpa Joe needs to consider how Dahl developed his characters. Here there is too much bias on prosecuting GJ. Grandpa Joe is really another version of Willy Wonka, but one with more affection for children, an affection that may come begrudgingly to GJ just as it is shown to come to WW through his admiration of Charlie.

If I weren't so old and my legs weren't so paralyzed, I'd kick him in the nose right now! I wish he had taken my DAUGHTER, who works all day to support our family despite her USELESS husband and BASTARDISH father-in-law, to the chocolate factory instead of GRANDPA HOE!!!
