Observations
- Charlie asks Grandpa Joe who works in Wonka's factory. Grandpa Joe insists that it is the undead several times during the production even after Charlie's mom asks him not to as it gives Charlie nightmares6.
Analysis
Grandpa Joe repeatedly insists on telling Charlie that wanting it more will have a greater influence on winning than the number of chocolate bars he buys. This is clearly untrue and Grandpa Joe must surely know it. Charlie's mother asks him to stop on more than one ocassion, but he ignores her.
Likewise in most cases he is content to stand idly by and watch the children experience horrible accidents. For some reason he feels compelled to speak to Violet. Of course, his comments are of no help and are actually quite cruel.
It seems clear that he has a bad habit of ignoring parents and social conventions to hurt children, at least with his words.
