Context

Grandpa Joe is exactly as described, mean and despicable, a person worthy of our hatred due to the things he says and does. Throughout the book and movie there are numerous examples of Grandpa Joe demonstrating a callous disregard for the welfare of others while at the same time satiating his own desires.

Grandpa Joe is slovenly and ill-mannered; worse, he teaches several of his bad habits to Charlie, both by example and by direct instruction.

Grandpa Joe demonstrates little respect for women throughout our encounter with him.

Grandpa Joe is a lecherous soul who commonly spends his days in bed with two women and another man.
