- Oh god yeah! I just came to this realisation watching it after Gene Wilder's death. Think about what life would like for the Bucket's if Granda Joe got off his selfish old ass.
Charlie's mum, who by the way has been needlessly cleaning up Joe's shit for 20 years on the assumption that he's an invalid, would have been able to do less around the house with Joe's assistance and could have gone out and found a father for Charlie. The 2 incomes could have allowed them to get some updated accomodation and some sustanance outside of fucking cabbage water.
If Charlie's mum had any self respect, upon the realisation that Joe was a lazy douche who can in fact walk, skip, jump and accompany Charlie to the chocolate factory. She'd have immediately kicked out of the shithole they live in or being that would pretty much be an upgrade in living circumstances shoot him dead and piss on his worthless corpse.

- I feel the noun Deadbeat should be included in this expose' of truth. Grandpa Joe's unwillingness to help the family while he clearly is capable is astounding. His lack of work ethic is unmatched! Having his daughter wait on him hand and foot is not only the definition of a deadbeat, but another example of mysogeny I.e., expecting a woman to serve him!
